DIY Centerpieces
A total of (per table) 8 votive candles, 4 drinking glasses filled with water (leaf and twig inside) and a floating candle, 3 hanging candles, branches from my backyard, and silk leaves I found on amazon sprinkled around bottom and some tied on fishing line but into branches. Trumpet vase, mirror, and 4 votive candles provided by the hall. My centerpieces will cost about $10 each.
DIY Shower Invitations
My future mother-in-law is throwing me a Kitchen shower! We looked all over for affordable shower invitations but couldn't see anything perfect so I made these! Almost every one is different but this is my mock up. It is a very rough draft so I still have some perfecting to do but I am proud of them!
DIY Veil
I purchased a cathedral veil from etsy.com and added some little jewels to it, however they were not that noticable so I wouldn't waste your time with it :oP
DIY Unity Candle
So I found a very beautiful Unity Candle set on etsy but after shipping it would cost me around $50 so I thought I would just make one myself. Thanks to some helpful tips on weddingbee.com I was able to get the necessary supplies at Wal Mart and Michaels.
Supplies
-Vellum paper (in the scrap paper aisle at your local craft store).
-Pillar Candle (I got mine from Wal Mart but they did have them at Michael's as well)
-2 Taper Candles (Also Wal Mart)
-Ribbon and twine (or whatever you would like to use to decorate with your theme, found at your local craft store)
-Scissors
-Glue (I used both crafting glue and hot glue)
-Double stick tape and a pencil

Steps for the Pillar Candle
-I printed my monogram on regular paper (see DIY Monogram to see how to make one). I used size 35 font for our names and size 200 for the "R". -I wrapped the regular paper around candle to make sure that it was centered correctly. I had to print a couple different ones to make sure it was centered correctly, this reduced me wasting the vellum paper. -Once I had it centered correctly I printed on vellum paper. I marked where the top of the candle hit the paper and cut the rest off. -I then used double stick tape on one edge and taped to the candle. I cut a little off the other side so that the paper would end directly on the back of the candle. -I used got glue for the ribbon, and the leaves. |
DIY Personalized Wire Hangers
Please see other page for details.
DIY Monogram
The monogram featured on my unity candle I created through Microsoft Word (2003).
-Type out names (I decided to used Kunstler Script in size 35 for font)
-On tool bar I went to "insert" then clicked text box
-In the text box I put in our last name and sized it to 200 with same font style
-Double click the text box (on the line) which brings you to "format text box"
-Go to layout
-Click "Behind Text"
And there you go that easy!

DIY Memorial Candle
To honor my mother.
See instructions under unity candle.
Only difference is I used a thin piece of ribbon and 2 pieces of twine to outline it.

DIY Cake/Card Box
Cake Knife and Server
A purchased cake knife and server from Wal Mart for like $9.98. I tied ribbon in a bow and hot glued a leaf to it.
Kissing Ball
I used a small Styrofoam ball and just stuck fake flowers in the ball. I tied the ribbon to floral wire left over the personalized hangers then jammed that in the ball then hot glued it. I used a couple of flowers to cover the knot from the ribbon.

Toasting Flutes
I wasn't really interested in spending $30 for generic toasting flutes nor spending even $10 in them so I just decided to make our own! I purchased the toasting flutes for $3.95 at a wedding supply store (although I'm sure you can pick up anywhere that sells dishes), tied raffeta and hot glued a little leaf to the middle. I also hot glued the back as well because the raffeta wouldn't stay.
Cake Pop/Escort Cards
I decided to make little cake pops that will triple as an appetizer and escort card. To make the cake pops I just googled 'how to make cake pops' and went by those instructions. Next I cut out card stock to look like a leave (I used a stencil) then I just hand wrote the name and table number.
A little time consuming since we will need about 110-115 but I will have an assembly line to help me the day before hand.
BTW, the little sprinkles are little leaves!

The final product
I totally forgot to get a picture with all 105 of them together but they turned out great and were a pretty big hit. It took me about 12-15 hours to make the 110 spread over 4 days...not too bad.
Programs
Using publisher I designed a 'greeting' card and filled the information in. I will only need one paper. I used raffeta for the crease/binding and glued 2 little leaves on the cover.
Table Numbers
I printed the number on a piece of card stock, traced a heart, cut it out and punched 2 holes on the sides then wrapped the raffeta around.
Well Wishes/Guest Book
Our 'guest book' is actually a card that has a fill in the blank, at the bottom it says 'wishes and wisdom from...'. I printed them on cardstock using word, cut with a paper slicer to insure straight lines, cut the top two edges off so it looks like a tag then punched a hole and tied a ribbon/twine through it.
Guests will tie it to a tree that I purchased at TJ Maxx for $12.99 (it lights up). I also provided pens for everybody as a favor. I ordered them from 'pens r us' they were on a special 33c with a minimum order of 300 plus I got free shipping so it was like $106 for all of them :o). They say "Jonny and Tiffannie, 'Write for Each Other', 11-11-11".
I placed a well wish card and pen on each table setting/plate.

Favors
Besides the pens and the cake pops I also had little boxes full of nuts. I would highly recommend skipping these because more than half were left behind. People loved the cake pops and pens (I didn't see any left over) but the boxes with nuts people didn't really do anything with them (other than eat some of them). But I purchased the boxes like 6 months before the wedding because they were on a really good sale (50 for $7.78) so I decided to purchase them. I wrapped some white ribbon around them and hot glued a small leave to them (leaf garland at Michaels). I ran out of white ribbon that is why half of them are white the other half was with the brown ribbon that game with the favors.
